Obituary 15 April 1910, died 12 April 1910:
Civil War Nurse Dead
Miss Catharine Keyser died Tuesday night at her home, 5922 Germantown Avenue, from pneumonia after one week’s illness. She was 65 years old. Miss Keyser was the daughter of Reuben Keyser, who was a business man in Germantown as early as 1820. Miss Keyser was born in 1845 and was educated in the Old Concord School House at Germantown Avenue and Washington Lane. During the Civil War, when Town Hall was converted into a hospital, known as Cuyler’s Hospital, Miss Keyser acted as a nurse to the wounded soldiers of the Union Army that were brought there. Miss Keyser was a descendant of Dirck Keyser, who cam here from Amsterdam in 1688. She was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a sister of Sylvester Keyser, former lieutenant of the police reserves. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon.
