I located in the 1895 KS census for Minneapolis, Ottawa Co. the family of John and Della Thompson which included 3 young children: Lydia, b 1890 in KS; Harry, b 1891 in CO and Norvall, b 1893 in KS. Norvall was then found living with Morgan and Emma Byrns in Sheridan Twp in the 1900 census as "adopted". Emma had given birth to one child but none were living (that statistic was also repeated in 1910). 1910 shows Norvall Thompson with the Byrns as "Hired man". Norvall Thompson shows up in subsequent census as Norvall Byrns and his heirs have shown up as Byrns. Did diphtheria or something else sweep Ottawa and Cloud Counties in the 1890's that might have wiped out multiple members of families? Morgan Byrns had a sister, age 19, who died during the same time frame and is buried in Delphos Cemetery. I have found no trace of John and Della Thompson nor the son, Harry, after that 1895 census. |
