The follwing my response to some questions from Claudie,

Colomby sur Thaon is a quaint litle village in

Region: Basse Normandie (Low Normandy)
Department: 14 Calvados
District: CAEN
Diocese: Bayeux

It is located 6 miles from the center of Caen.

Its early name was Colombiers sur Thaon. It is now called Colomby sur Thaon.

The town of Thaon is 3 miles west of Colomby sur Thaon. The ancient name for Thaon was Thaün.

The current translation of Colombe is Pigeon. The ancient word was Colum.

A very interesting article on Philippe de Thaon and his

Livre des Creatures, or Liber de Creatures, probably written around 1119

can be found at:

Pierre-Lionel LaBerge, in his last e-mail (translated by Lucien) stated that he believes that Jacques de la Berge, his first wife Marguerite Basly, and Thomas Touchet all came from Thaon. Whether they moved from Thaon to Colombiers sur Thaon is unclear, or if they lived in between the two villages.
