Hello, Hugh Matheson, b. 1794, was a Gaelic-speaking highlander who was a ground officer (rent collector) for the Duke of Sutherland. His parents were Donald Matheson (b. 1740, d. 1793) who married Helen MacDonald in 1769. Donald's father was also a Hugh Matheson, b.approx 1720 in Dornach. Helen's father was John MacDonald. I am decended from "Betsy"(Elizabeth) Matheson, who married my great grandfather, Thomas Drysdale. Betsy was the daughter of Alexandrina (Lexy) Corbett and Neil Matheson. She emigrated to Canada and then to New York. Betsy and Thomas are interred in the Green Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York, US. Tom drysdale
