I think there is an error in your connections. John Reid had a brother named Samuel that lived in Jackson, TN. Samuel M. lived in Shelby County, AL, and son John Mitchell learned law from "Jackson Samuel", and signed the secession document of the AL legislature. "Shelby Samuel" wife's maiden name was Nelson, and he was a brother to "Jackson Samuel" father, John McClanahan who married Janet McClurkin. John McClanahan's father was also John McClanahan, but he died at Cowpens Battle, and wife remarried Richard Pugh.
My line came to west TN before 1840, too, by way of KY from SC before 1800. Have not been able to figure out how we connect, but my DNA does not match a lot of the VA McClanahan lines, such as William and Mary Marshall McClanahan family. Completely different codes! I SEEK A MATCHING ANALYZED PATTERN! Can anyone help?
