Hi Gordon,

Daniel Pegg IV was married to Catherine, not Elizabeth. I don't know where the name Elizabeth came from, and I have never seen any records that indicate an Elizabeth as his wife. The Catherine who married John Robbins was Daniel IV's wife (or widow), and the will she left proves it since she lists her children (from Daniel IV).

John Robbins appears to have been a neighbor to Daniel and Catherine. It is very likely that Daniel IV was the Daniel Pegg who died during the Rev. War while serving as a "Ostler" in the Quartermaster General's Dept in 1778. Catherine married John Robins/Robbins on May 16, 1778 in Alexandria, Hunterdon CO., NJ.

As for Catherine's maiden name.....I have searched for it too. I speculated that it might have been Thompson since she had a son named Thompson and there were Thomsons and Thompsons in the area. I have also been told that her maiden name was Goodpasture and that she was either the daughter or sister of Jacob Goodpasture (of VA). I did find a Jacob Goodpasture listed in Hunterdon Co. for the year 1757 where he enlisted with the NJ Frontier Guard. Interestingly, his name was listed adjacent to Daniel Pegg's name. They enlisted at about the same time and served the same number of days. Of course, that isn't proof that Catherine's maiden name was Goodpasture...

Dan Dixon, Lois George Smith and I have recently published a book on the Daniel Peggs of Hunterdon County. Its main focus was Daniel III, Daniel IV, and Daniel V, and distinguishing between them. Let me know if you are interested. You can find out more about the book at Joanne Fairman's site:
