Does anyone have any record of a woman named Eliza (Elizabeth) Barton Breazeale Pegg? Apparently this woman was murdered during the Civil War because of her devotion to the Confederacy. I don't know the exact details, however this source was retrived from the book Southern Historical Families, Volume VIII by John Benney Boddie, published in Baltimore by Geneological Publishing Co., 1970, page 132 and 133. I did find some records of her though. She was the daughter of Baily and Jane Barton of South Carolina, she was born on October 9, 1825. Her first marriage was to Griffin Breazeale in 1841. She had 6 children while married to Griffin Breazeale, they lived in Pickens County, South Carolina. After his death she married James B. Pegg in November of 1857. They relocated to Anderson County, South Carolina. They had three children together: William Martin Pegg b: 1859 Fekeok Loo Pegg b: 1860 (apparently that's how his name was spelled) Bailey McSwain Pegg b: 1862. I'm assuming she must've been killed at some kinda assembly where she spoke out openly in front of a bunch of union abolonishists. Other than that assumption, I have no idea of what the details to this murder. During the Civil War era Abraham Lincoln took away everyone's right to trial. So her murder must've gone totally unrecorded. If anyone knows of any details it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm a direct descendant, William Martin Pegg is my great-great grandfather.
