I have Poiles in my ancestry also. It has been suggested that some Poiles' changed their name to Piles or Pyles. I have a copy of essay that my great aunt wrote about the Pyles. She states their name was once known as Poiles. It has also been suggested that Poiles is a french name and was Anglicized to Pyles or Piles. If it is French, I would think the 's' is silent as in Illinios. It has been difficult to follow the Pyles line.
