So far, my line of PURSEY can be traced back to Devon and Somerset.
My great grandparents came to the United States in their early 20ís and eventually settled in Illinois. To explain further, My line of PURSEY goes back to Somersetshire and Devonshire England. My GGGrandfather, Charles PURSEY was born in Somersetshire, England, April 28, 1858 and was the son of Thomas and Sarah Anne (Fields) Pursey. He received his early education in England and came to America, landing at Castle Garden, New York, March 12, 1881. He came direct to Macoupin county, Illinois working on the farm. Later he bought his first 80 acres in Polk Township, Illinois. I know he had one brother who also came the US a short time after he did... His brother's name is George (born February 29, 1860). He also settled in the Illinois area.
Besides Charles and George, Thomas and Sarah had other children. As far as I know, the others remained in England.
