"History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania" Cushing, Thomas, 1821 Chicago: A Warner & Co., 1889 pg. 623 "ROBERT M. RATH - farmer, postoffice Cosgrove. ALEXANDER RATH, the great-grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was a native of Ireland, of Scotch extraction. His son ADAM, married MARY MACYEAL, and they had the following-named children: ROBERT, JAMES, MARGARET, MRS. JANE McELHENNY, MRS. MARTHA HEAZLEP, MRS. NANCY McANULTY, JOHN, and ADAM (the last named was a member of the Hampton battery, and was killed at Gettysburg, in the peach ordchard). The last-named ROBERT RATH was born in Dec. 1812, in Country Antrim, Ireland, and immigrated to this country with his parents. He had to make his own way in the world, but became a successful farmer. He is a member of Mifflin U.P. Church, and of session; he is a democrat. He married MARY McFADDEN, and their children are MRS. MARY J. CURRY, JAMES H., SAMUEL A., ROBERT M. (whose name heads this sketch), MRS. NANCY B. MORTON, MRS. ELLEN BRIERLY, MRS. CAROLE McCLURE, and EMMA." NOTE: My ancestor is Jane McElhenny. JANE RATH married JOHN HENRY McELHINNEY. I'm trying to find out John Henry McElhinney's parents. Hope you can use the above information. Cathy F. |
