Good morning Barbara. - That certainly was a quick reply! My g/g/grandparents homesteaded in section 4 of Riverside township, one mile west of the Stevens'. And, strangely enough, they are buried in Mt. Zion cemetery. So, I know both areas well. - If you were in Centerville there is a paved road leaving east out of town. The road turns north just before the Lincoln county line. You won't find it on a highway map as it's a county maintained road but a half mile north of Centerville, on the left side of the road is Riverview cemetery. If you continue north, the road will stop and you will have to go east or west. A quarter mile to the east is Mt. Zion cemetery, on the north side of the road. It is an eighth mile inside Lincoln county. The church was hit by lightning and structurally damaged to the point that it had to be taken down. The congregation moved into Centerville. I have only seen photos of the church and I believe that it was unused when struck. - I have not seen anything online about the cemetery either but can go there and photograph the stones for you. I have considered doing this before as I have a friend who puts transcriptions online and I have wanted to start doing this myself. - My digital camera only takes six photos so I will have to borrow a better camera. Keep in touch with me via my e-mail address and I will get back to you with what I find. In the meantime, I would suggest contacting one or more Stevens' via snailmail as there are so many in Centerville. - Also, check the genforum Union county page as I believe I corresponded with someone about the Hopkins name in Beresford (8 miles from Centerville). I believe they were related to the Stevens'. I'll have to look myself. Let me know if you have a Hopkins connection. - bye, dj |
