I am from Armisteads direct line.Yes there are a few Taliaferros.It was a maternal family name that was passed down.Berryman was another maternal name passed down. As far as Armistead, it was a family name in Virginia at the time the original Shumates were living there, but I have been unable to establish a marital link to the family. John Shumate's will was witnessed by Armistead Blackwell.Perhaps they were just friends. I know that there was a Shumate / Blackwell marital link.
