Came across this post while researching Mennonite emigration from the canton of Neuchâtel. Presuming your gggrandfather is Johannes Schlunegger, b. La Chaux-de-Fonds, 12 April 1815? He was the son of Michael Schlunegger, who bought land in Washington Twp in 1822, having emigrated with wife and family. Michael was born La Chaux-de-Fonds 02 July 1792, son of Johannes Schlunegger (b c1738), who came to the canton of Neuchâtel from Bern to escape religious persecution. Michael's sister-in-law Verena("Fanny")Liechti(widow of bro Christian) brought her kids to Ohio in 1824. A whole batch of Michael's nephews and nieces followed suit. And if you think Americanised spellings are bad, you should see what the French-speakers made of it! (Schoenequer is my favourite.) If you would like more details, contact me direct via sarah@angloswiss.net - I'd be interested in anything you know about this line in the US.
