I have noticed in doing census work on the Jerome B. Tate family of Lauderdale County, AL and Giles County, TN, that there were several marriages between the Tates and Grishams. What I have found strange is that in almost every generation of the two families, there will be a child whose middle name is Snipes. Was there ever a Snipes-Tate or a Snipes-Grisham marriage that anyone is aware of? Also, in almost every generation of the two families there appears the name Bayles/Bailes/Baylis. One Tate child was named Bayles Snipes (b c1854). I had wondered if some of the Grisham and Tate men had served in Bayles's Unit in the War of 1812, or was there a family connection? Jerry |
