The parents of John H. Williams are unknown to me. However, if he lived in Rutherford County, TN in 1830 according to census records only one man could have been his father - Lodowick Williams - but I cannot prove my theory.

I have additional information on C. L. Williams who was married to S. E. Williams in 1850. He was a neighbor of John H. Williams and Loderick Williams in the 1850 census of Dyer County, TN. In 1860 C. L.'s daughters lived in the homes of Loderick and John. He and his wife were evidently deceased. It is also possible that C. L. Williams married after the death of Susan.

He appears to have left a widow, Martha Jane Williams (Curtis). She lived on the farm where C. L. Williams had lived in 1850. She was evidently Jane Curtis, daughter of William Curtis in the 1850 census of Dyer County.

M. J. Williams had a 9 year old daughter named M.J. Williams in 1860. By 1870 the daughter was called May Williams, age 17, and her mother was called Martha Molanry. The spelling of her name is probably incorrect. I have no other evidence to support my theory.

His daughters from the first marriage were Amanda E., b.9 Jul 1846 in Dyer County; Almira A, b. 2 Nov 1848 in Dyer County; Susan E., b.Apr 1850 in Dyer County.

Amanda married David Green, 22 Dec 1866. Almira married Albert M. Odle, 17 Sep 1866. Susan married John Lee, 3 Jun 1867 and Jesse Manley 30 Dec 1877.

The Goodspeed biography of Albert Odle in Crockett County, TN named Almira's parents as Lee and Susan Williams.

His daughter, Amanda Green, died in Crockett County, TN on 19 Aug 1914. The informant for her death certificate was, D. W. Green (probably her son Edd W. Green) named Asa Williams and Elizabeth Green as her parents. Providing the incorrect name of her father 60 years after his death is forgivable.

This lead me to their marriage record and evidence that C. L. Williams probably came to Dyer County from Rutherford County. The marriage record of Charles L. Williams and Elizabeth Green can be found in Wilson County, TN. They were married 5 May 1844. Wilson County borders Rutheford County, TN at Stone River.

These facts provide the full names of this couple: Charles Lee Williams and Susan Elizabeth Green. It also indicates that the bride lived in Wilson County, TN when she married; the license was valid only if she was a resident.

In the 1840 census of Rutherford County, TN, John H. Williams lived 7 doors away from Lodowick Williams and had three males living in his home in addition to his own children. They were probably younger siblings. Two were aged 20-30 and one was age 15-20. One was probably Charles Lee, b.1817, another was probably Loderick, b.abt.1823, and the other is still unknown, b. between 1810-1820.

The father of these males was probably Lodowick Williams. He remarried to Shady Lockhart 31 Jul 1834 in Rutherford County, TN. By 1840, there were no children in his home. The sons probably lived in the home of John H. Williams.

Two other possible children of Lodowick were Mariah Williams who married Jesse Perkins 1 Feb 1824 in Rutherford County, TN. When Lodowick remarried the surety was Jesse Perkins(Probably his son-in-law). And, Samuel M. Williams who stayed in Rutherford County for the remaining years of his life. Samuel lived next door to Lodowick in 1840 and named his first daughter, Shady Williams; probably for his step-mother.

These data do not document the relationships between the Williams families, however it does raise strong possiblities.

I hope this helps.
