It is possible. We have not been able to establish his ancestry with proof. The 1870 census of Ballard County, KY has a William C. Pain,34, in the household of Lucy,56. The only problem with this William C. Pain (Payne) was his age-approximately 7-10 yrs older than the 1880 and 1900 census records for Graves County, KY.--- These we know are "our William Cook".
The William C. Pain of TN, we think was associated with John and Mary Savage Pain (Payne)who also moved to Ballard County between 1850-1860. It has been said John and Mary had a son Lewis who married a Lucy ?. (Lucy appears senior member in the Van Buren, TN 1850 census and the 1870 Ballard County, Ky census.
Any and all additional info appreciated.
