Ms. Cofty, I am a descendant of Martin G. Tootle. Your James H. Tootle shows up in the 1860 Census of Tattnall Co., GA. He is sometimes mistaken for James L. S. Tuttle, the son of James L. Tuttle and Rachel Newton of Screven Co., GA. They both fought in the Civil War, but James H. Tootle is not the son of James Tootle and Rachel Newton. James H. and James L. S. are two separate individuals. There is almost certainly a connection between your Tootle and the Tootle/Tuttles of Tattnall and Screven Co., GA. Maybe we'll find it in time. Beuford D. Durrence
