I think that your Joseph S. is our family. We are trying to connect the IA CHAMPENOIS with Daniel, the IMMIGRANT. The trouble is there are too many Thomases.

Yesterday, Jeff SAMPNOIS sent me this:

Then today they showed me a list of other Champenois from New York State
living in Iowa in 1850 (John 50, Mary 51, John T. 24, Rosman?? 16 female,
Joseph Stephen 20, Bertha? C 18 female, Elizabeth, 17, and Thomas 83). That
last Thomas would have been born in New York around 1767. That doesn't link
with any information I have. I thought for a while they might descend from
Daniel (the eldest child of the original Thomas, by way of Berne, New York,
but the names I have that might be his children (as you once surmised) don't
match perfectly, though it might still be the case). Then there's another
ThomaS -- son of Andrew son of Thomas -- but his birth date doesn't match
the scenario either.

This looks like your Joseph, with a father John, sister Bertha and Elizabeth.
