Hi Judi,

Thanks for your suggestion to look at Robert's family. At first I was sure that my William was the son of William and Judith ROBERTS CHANDLER, and a nephew to Robert, but that didn't pan out.

I have Robert and Mary with 11 children.

The two sons you mention as being possible candidtates for William's father were William or Willis.

William married Mary (Polly) HILL 6 July 1791 and Willis CHANDLER married Rebecca HILL (sister to Polly named above) 20 July 1802. Both unfortunately are too late for my William who was born about 1788.

Either William, who I have born about 1768, and Willis, born about 1775, were old enough to have been my William's father. However, using the marriage dates given above for them, there would have had to have been a first marriage for one of them in order for my William to fit in. William (son of Robert) apparently moved on into Mississippi according my sources.

Robert and Mary also had a son named John, b. about 1754, who married (1) Caty TUNSTALL 10 January 1775 and (2) Catherine IRBY in 1822 (the source I'm using says that this marriage is "commonly supposed"). The source lists only two children for John: one is Tunstall CHANDLER born about 1779 and the other is Scott CHANDLER who was born about 1782 possibly in Newberry, SC. The dates for John and Caty fit more closly with my William's dates, but it seems this family moved to SC after the Rev. War - and my William seems to be in Halifax Co. at least in 1812 when he married.

All of this comes from a book DISCOVERING CHANDLER LINES, 1475-1996, by Annamae B. CHANDLER. It is a big book with lots of CHANDLERS and I can not fit my William into any of the CHANDLER lines in the book! According to this book, Obediah, son of William and Judith (ROBERTS) CHANDLER moved into Weakley Co. which is near Carroll Co.

I would appreciate any other comments or suggestions you might have as to William's possible parents. If you have any information on John the son of Robert and Mary I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Janet
