Joseph Chandler Buffalo to Chicago

Does anyone have knowledge of a Joseph Chandler who resided near Buffalo, NY in Eden Township in the 1830s? He married Catherine Lauer and the couple had 2 girls. Supposedly Joseph went to Chicago, Illinois as part of a team of individuals hired by Cook County to clear the mouth of the Chicago River in about 1838. He moved his family to Cook County and died there about 1843. Unfortunately, I have no idea where Joseph was born, who his parents were, etc. Any suggestions are welcome.
