Many early New York Chandlers descended from William and Annis Chandler. They migrated from Connecticut to New York after the American Revolution and after the War of 1812. Try looking up the daughters or any of his other children in the 1880 census and later censuses as it will give the birthplace of the parents. Censuses are full of errors so look up all of the censuses to see if the information matches. Usually, the most consistent answers are the correct ones. You can get the 1880 census free on www.familysearch.org. You can get more census information on their pilot site. Click on search records at the top and then click pilot. Most of this is also free. Heritage Quest is free from many libraries. If you have any Chandler surnamed male relatives, you may be interested in DNA testing. You can read about it on our site www.edmundchandler.com. Click on DNA results on the left hand side. You can also read about the early arriving Chandler families there. If your search leads to Edmund Chandler let us know! Good luck and happy hunting!
