So your mother's maiden name was Chandler and not Candler, right. And she was from a line of Chandlers in Philidelphia.

Asa Griggs Candler of Coca Cola fame and his line has been throughly documented back to Ireland. The surname was consistently spelled Candler. That doesn't mean that somewhere, sometime a branch of the Candlers somehow became Chandler. Is possible. Asa's Candler line was here well before Ellis Island. Look at the history posted at msg. boards, family trees at rootsweb, etc.

If you are trying to determine your Chandler origins, start with what you know and work backwards beginning with your mother's parents and answer the basic questions. You should be able to get back to Philly and before.

Cheryl
