Marj, I think I've got what you're looking for. I just found a hand-written parish record from Montreal (in French, naturally) detailing "Isabelle's" death. I still need to scan in the document -- and, when I do, I'll be sure to forward the file along to you -- but here's a brief translation that I worked up, just to tied you over: in the year 1744 on the 30th of September was buried in the parish cemetery by the customary ceremony Elizabth Haboire age: 86 years who died on the 29th of this month wife of Jean Charbonaut I've seen other documents that have gone back and forth on whether or not this lady was an Elizabeth or an Isabelle. I think when you go this far back, sometimes you can never know for certain... do you trust THIS document or do you trust the other? That kind of thing. I've never seen the "H" in front of Aboire -- and, honestly, I might be misreading the handwriting a little bit, but there is SOMETHING there, in this account... written out in two separate areas of the record too. So, that's interesting, but - again - I hesitate to call anything "definitive" just based on one record like this. Cool. I'll try to get that scan done, so you can see what I'm talking about. It's nice to know someone else is doing research on the non-Sacajewea side of the Charbonneau line! :) Take care, Joe Notify Administrator about this message?
