So far we have never found any direct connection to the surname Chaney, Chainey or any of those variations. There is an online census found at the Anne Arundel site that has Chancys enumerated there in 1790. I wrote to a genealogical library in Anne Anrundel County with the $$ necessary for a basic search. What I got back was for Chaneys, so I presume the 1790 transcribed census for Anne Arundel County contains errors.

The following census data was copied and pasted here directly from that online census. I know that it will be diffucult to read due to the spacing going to heck when I paste it to this forum, but you should be able to see and understand what I am dealing with.

Thank you for your input however...I appreciate all the good people here at the genforum do.
