I am excited to see the Chiddix family site as I've unsuccessfully tried to find connections to my Sarah Chiticks and certainly the spelling could be Chiddix. Sarah was born in Palatinate, Germany in 1746, married Frederick Ripperdan whose family is reported to have settled in York Co. PA and was a taxpayer there in 1780, although some family researchers feel he was raised in VA. Their first three children were born in PA.

Many of the Dutch settlers of the Canewago area of York Co. moved 40 miles southwest to Berkeley Co., VA (now West VA)around 1769. In 1779, Dutch families from Berkeley Co. and Dutch families from York Co. immigrated to KY. Some came down the Ohio River and some came over the mountains. Early KY history books list Fred and his young family as being among those who left VA for KY in 1780, traveling through the Cumberland Gap. They were caught in the mountains during the winter, lost many of their men to Indian attacks, and arrived at Boonesboro Fort in March of 1780. Possibly their 4th child was born enroute.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who thinks they might be connected to Sarah Chittick.
