Hello there, I e-mailed you a while back about a certain man named William R. Childress and his wife Mary who lived in Charlotte county. I wanted to speak with you about my thoughts. I have found that Mary Childress (William's wife) has a father named William Childress who lived in Mecklenburg county for a time because both her and her sister Elizabeth were married there. It says on later censuses that Mary was born in Prince Edward so I expect that that is where William is from. I found one marriage in Prince Edward County between a William Childress and Pheobe Hill in 1804. One of the only other marriages that I found was between a Robert Childress and Rachel Estes. I remember that you deal with particular line of the Childress Family. I was wondering if you could solidify my guess that they are part of my family. Another thing that I spoke with you about is about a Thomas Childress being the father of my William R. I believe that is unlikely because he was married only once and that was eleven years after William R.'s birth. You sent me a copy of a record of the 1800 tax list in Charlotte county that listed Thomas, William, and a William Sr. I believe that William is the father of William R. William R. may have used his middle initial to distinguish between himself and his father. Thomas and William may be brothers. There is three William Childresses in Charlotte County at the time. One was married to a Polly/Mary Breedove in 1799 in Charlotte. Another was married to Peggy Hazlewood in 1794 in Charlotte. Yet another was married to Anne Henson in 1786 in Charlotte. I believe all of these people must be Childreys because I look at all of the tax lists and censuses before 1805 (when William R. was born) there is nothing but Childrey. I found there is only a Benjamin Childrey that comes up in Charlotte county in 1782 but there is 10 people who live with him. Of course they don't list any of those names! One more thought I would like to share with you is that I believe that William R.'s father died shortly after his birth because there is no record of any other childress in that area other than Thomas Childress who I believe is his uncle who may have raised him. I was wondering if you could help me out with any of this information or just shed your thoughts on all of this. I also thought that this information may be helpful to you. Thank you.
