Thank you again for answering my questions, and taking an interest.
The letter is a 3 page typed letter from 1978, and even tells of them trying to go west from KY in wagons,and got ambushed by Indians. If you would like me to email it, let me know your address. It says that alot of the Smiths were from Columbia, Adair County, KY. Old George, born KY (peg stick), his son, George W. Smith (1848 or 1859, born IL) who married Martha Butler living in Adair Co., and their childrens names, and his son George Al Smith, born Boonville, Cooper Co., when the Indians waylaid them) and also his wife and kids. He was my grandfather. I have found them in Taylor County, KY also. And later in Mason Co. IL.
I am really stuck with this old George.
