I do have his Death Certificate from 1915, but unfortunately, whoever gave the information did not know much about him, saying the parents were unknown, when we know the father was George, and place of birth in IN rather than the correct place IL.
Since this son would have been about 10-12 in 1860, I have tried to search both IL and KY census for 2 George Smiths, looking for the father, the Civil War vet, but so far have only found the son in Adair County KY in 1870. Most members of all the family stayed in KY until 1905, when they moved to IL. So I have focused more on searching KY, Adair and Taylor Counties where everyone else was living. The Smith branch is my dead end, and I thought with the information that he received a pension would be help in finding him. It doesn't appear any way of narrowing down which George.
