I only have his name, George Smith, as mentioned in post
#26108, from the Columbia Adair Co. KY. area, leg shot off, walked on peg stick and received a pension. This came from an old family letter. Someone on this forum had suggested there could have been mistakes in the letter, which is rightly possible. But I thought I would look into it as far as I could. I could not find him on a census with his son Geo W. Smith (b 1848).
I looked up Regiments in that area of KY, found the 13th and the 9th, and tried to go through that Adjutat report on Ancestry but all the Georges I could find all said mustered out. I hope I didn't overlook any, or if there were other Regiments from the area, not very familiar with Civil War researching, but trying to learn.
I also looked on the 1890 Veterans census, but only found his brother-in-law.
The pension cards don't give enough information, no way of telling which Georege, unless you know the regiment, I believe, unless I am not understanding.
I guess with so little information on him, I dead end with his son. The son's death certificate says parents unknown, but family knew his father was old George.
Guess I am on a dead end unless anyone can tell me where or what else I can look up.
