We will need a bit more information if you have it. The NPS soldiers and sailors listing does not show anyone with that name serving. In Confederate service there are 9 J. Coles listed - none from Kentucky, and there are 5 J. B.s - again, none from Kentucky. What is your source for his Confederate service? Did he live in a different state in 1860?
