I'm looking for more information on Chauncey O. Cummings of Wisconsin.

Chauncey O. was living in Adams County, Wisconsin when the war broke out. I learned from the "Soldiers and Sailors" system that a Chauncey O. Cummings was a drafted man and that his regiment is listed as Unassigned Wis. Vols.

There is another Chauncey Cummings who was a private in the 29 Wisconsin Infantry. I'm not sure if this is the same man, but would appreciate some clarification on whether they are and what exactly "Unassigned Wis. Vols" means.
