Amzi Warren, 10th TN. Cav., Co "E"

My ancestor (Confederate) was captured December 6, 1863 in Humphreys County, TN. Was there a battle or something going on there at that time? or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time? Also, did all Confederates have to take the Oath of Allegiance during or after the war? Thank you
