William Denny

I am looking for more information regarding William Denny who lived in Lewis, Iowa and was born in 1828.

William enlisted as a private on the 13th of August 1862 and served in Co. I, Iowa 23rd Infantry Regiment (Union).

One source says William mustered out at Arcadia, MO on the 4th of March 1863. Another says he deserted. Which one is accurate?

Also, is there any more information regarding this man? Why he deserted or if he was ever caught?

Thanks,
Alex
