Actually, if you have sources for Civil War veterans then GW's brother-in-law, E.T. Cross, is a mystery for me. His name was either Edwin or Edward and the middle name was probably Thomas. His tombstone reads "CO.L.6.I.V.C" which I suspect means Company L #6 Illinois Volunteer Cavalry. He is also buried in Jetmore, KS and lived with GW and his wife for most of his life. He was born 1/9/1839 and died in 9/20/1909.
