Bean's Station has been under a lake since 1941, but I'd like to know more about James Gatlin first.

If your James Gatlin belonged to Co. "A", 40th Tennessee Regiment, he's from Limestone County AL. Other Gatlins from Limestone County who served in the same company were Oliver, John Wesley and Valentine. James and William Gatlin (AKA Gatling) later enrolled in Co. "I", 9th Alabama Regt. Both deserted on Jan. 14, 1864, and took the oath of allegiance on Mar. 1, 1864, stating themselves to be residents of Lincoln County TN (just over the state line from Limestone County).

James Gatlin appears on the 1880 census as a resident of Lincoln County TN. In 1900 he and his family are back in Limestone County AL.

What's his connection to Bean Station TN?
