Sandra --

The concensus among Ford family researchers appears to be that Thomas M. Ford died of pneumonia in 1863. The only source citation I find is one linking him to a U.S. soldier who died near Tupelo MS on Jan. 30, 1863, and is buried in Keokuk National Cemetery in Iowa. Without very convincing evidence, I'd have great difficulty believing any of that.

IMHO it's more likely that Emily Ford died shortly after childbirth in Sept. 1863. Itawamba had been traversed by armies of both sides since the summer of 1862, so perhaps Thomas decided to take the family elsewhere. I don't see another Thomas M. Ford who fits the description, so he could well be the T. M. Ford who claimed residence in Tippah County on his 1865 parole. Nobody seems to know where the children went after the war, or what exactly happened to Thomas M. Ford.
