Clouston Family Genealogy Forum

Hi
Loved the Clouston database, Jim, full of surprising and amusing facts. I didn't realise that the Cloustons were related to royalty! But I see that Andrew's (25) (b.c.28.7.1835},son of Robert(24)(b.1785)and Catherine Isbister, grandfather Robert(23)(b.1747) of Stenness)first family in Stromness, Orkney, Scotland is not included in your line of descendants. He married Jessie Borwick and they had 5 children - Janet(b.1855) who became a matron in a private nursing hospital in Newcatle-upon-Tyne,Hughena (b.1860),Catherine (b.1858),Margaret(b.1862)and John (b.2.11.1864). John followed his father to North America when he was old enough. In 1871 Andrew left Orkney,Scotland for North America and started another family on a farm near Barnesville,Wilkin County,Minnesota with Catherine Hunter (b.c.1842), these children are all on your list.Back in Orkney,Jessie went on to have another child, Alexina, my grandmother (father unknown) 6 years after Andrew had left for America. During my research for my missing g.grandfather,in Orkney, still unknown,I have found that Jessie's mother Catherine's maiden name wass also Hunter (b.1801). So I am wondering if our two families are indeed related on the female line. I wonder if anyone out there knows any family info. on the matter. Also, does anyone know how Andrew and Catherine sailed to America - may be on a Hudson Bay Co. ship from Stromness {circa 1871), as according to your lists, Jim, the Cloustons were employed with the Company? Did Catherine Hunter have a twin brother called James, as he would fit in with my research? I hope this info. rings a bell with somebody and look forward to any replies.
Thankyou, Jan.c
