Dear All Greetings from Yorkshire, England. Please help me? I am gathering information about Charles W. Cochrane, a Master Weaver from Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland, who emigrated to Holyoke, Massachusetts, circa 1853, and his family. Charles was born in Neilston Parish, Renfrewshire, Scotland in Febraury 1826, the son of Robert Cochran and Margaret Cochran (nee McWiggam)and died in Holyoke, Mass., in late-1874. Cochrane was, when he died, a US Civil War Veteran, overseer of the machine repair shop at Holyoke's Lyman Cotton Mill, a noted Freemason, Warden of Holyoke's second largest church, the Second Reformed Church, and proprietor of a Holyoke boarding house. In that boarding house, in 1970-71, lived Cochrane, his Scottish wife, his mother and his blind brother, John. A daughter married into Massachusetts' wealthy Sackett business dynasty. I am interested in any information about: a/ Charles's life and adventures in his native Barrhead /Scotland and in his adopted Massachusetts home town of Holyoke and b/ Charles's family in Barrhead and Holyoke. All help given will be deeply appreciated. Alan Newark Notify Administrator about this message?
