Who was Samuel Cochran and where did he come from? On March 21, 1784, Jonathan Spafford of Pownalborough was made guardian of the minor female children of Samuel Cochran, late of Newcastle, specifically Mary and Martha. On October 7, 1789, guardianship of the children was given to Robert Cochran, Jonathan Spafford having died between May 12, 1787, when his will was executed and July 3, 1787, when the estate was probated. On the records Robert has been identified as Cochran, Cochern and Cothran. When Martha married William Somes, she identified her father as Robert Cothran, her mother was not identified. So far I have not been able to identify either Samuel or Robert Cochran, but I believe that Samuel was Martha’s father. Does anyone know anything about either of these individuals?
