My name is Diane Cookfair. I'm descended from the Alexander Cochever/Cockever who showed up in Dutch New York in the 1600's and married first Judith Jans and then Winefred. The Cockefair surname was changed to Cookfair by a man named Thomas (born about 1826) who is buried in a cemetery in Rockland County, New York near his Indiana relative Abram/Abraham "Cockafair". I've compiled a fair amount of information which indicates that Thomas Cookfair was related to the offshoots of the Cockefair family from Bloomfield, New Jersey and Cambridge, Indiana. Since they are clearly related to the Cookfairs I've worked out a fairly detailed family history for the Cockefairs from New Jersey, New York and Indiana while I was trying to identify Thomas's father. (I only need to figure out who the father of Thomas was, and then I've got my part of the Cockefair/ Cookfair family tree filled in back to Alexander Cochever.)
I am just starting to get a year's worth of research into a gedcom file, and would love to compare notes with anyone who is interested in the Cochever/Cockefer/ Cockfair/ Cockefair/ Cookfair family tree!
