I certainly don't know for sure, but I suspect it was just as likely purely a business relationship. Capt. William was a sea captain who made his living hauling folks over from England. Capt. William was the son of William Cockeram of Purbeck in Dorset and Alice Covell, daughter of Thomas Covell of Wichampton in Dorset. He married first Anne Wall, daughter of William Wall and was the father of Catherine b. 1617 and Mary b. 1619. He married next to Anne Spencer after coming to Virginia in 1639 aboard the Robert Ely. Anne was the daughter of William Spencer who had come with Christopher Newport on the Susan Constant in 1607. William Spencer reportedly had bought his house from John Rolphe husband of Pocahontas. Capt. William and Anne were parents of William Cockerham II 1659-1707 m. 1. Hannah 2. Mary. He was father of William III b. ca 1700. Second child of Capt. William and Anne was Thomas Cockerham 1665-1717 m. Mary Elizabeth who had kids Timothy, Elizabeth, Anne and Priscilla. Capt. William had a brother Dennis. That's more than I know. Hope it helps.
