I noticed the Stuart or Stewart name assoc. with Cockerham. My Stewarts were neighbors to Moses Cockerham in Surry Co Nc since early 1780's, perhaps sooner as my first Stewart known in the area was Nathaniel Stewart in Surry Co Nc by 1774. I have a deed in Surry with Moses and my Stewarts. Later I find Cockerhams in the Buncombe Co Nc/Macon Co. Nc area. Still another land deed with a William Cockerham and one of my Stewarts in Buncombe Co. My Stewart migrated from Surry to Greenville, Sc by 1797 and were in Buncombe Co. by 1810(Nathaniel Stewart), and Edward Stewart in Buncombe Co Nc by 1812. I noted several Cockerhams in the Greenville areas as well. Edward Stewart born 1750 had a daughter Nancy Stewart who married William Prather/Prator in Greenville between 1810-1812, they moved to Buncombe Co after 1812. Their son E.B. Praytor married a Cockerham, the dau. of William Cockerham. Several of the Cockerhams in Buncombe/Macon Co married into the same lines as my Stewarts did. Any other info. on these Stuarts in IA.? Thanks, Teresa Stuart de Rios, dooriss@telesal.net
