Just a point of clarification: The D. S. Cockerham listed in the 1840 Macon Co NC census was Daniel Stewart Cockerham, son of William and Charity Jennings Cockerham. His wife was Celia Gibbs, and they and their eight children moved from NC to Iowa in 1847, living just north of Des Moines in a community called Saylorville.

I have never been able to place my William Cockerham into a specific family. He, Charity, and their children moved about 1823 from Surry Co NC to what was then Haywood Co, later Macon, finally Jackson NC. I have heard the speculation that he was a son of Moses Sr., but I have no documentation. Any information on this particular line would be most appreciated.
