I have more Cockerham/Newman info some where, but right now this is all I can find. Will post again later when I find rest of it. But the only Cockerham/Newman I have handy is:
Nancy Cockerham born 1803 SC died Oct 21 1843 Amite Co, MS married Hezekiah Newman 29 April 1823 in Amite Co MS and their children were:
Solomon Newman b 1824 Amite Co. MS
James Newman b 1826 Amit Co MS
Elizabeth Newman b 1830 Amite Co MS
Hezekiah Newman (Jr) b 25 Jan 1832 Amite Co MS
Seaborn Newman b 1834 Amite Co MS
Silas Newman b 1834 Amite Co MS (Seaborn & Silas suposidly twins)
Martin Van Buren Newman b 1838 Amite Co MS

Since your Cockerham/Newmans were from Amite Co MS and so are the above family, they might be related some how. Might give you something to look at anyway.
