Thanks for the reply. I also received your E-Mail with your attached history. This was very interesting. I had heard of this castle in England and saw a map with its location pinpointed. I briefly looked at your history and your list of Robert Welborn's children. It matches mine except Marion Welborn didn't have a first name of Francis. I have seen that on the internet before and have come to the conclusion that they mixed him up with a Francis Marion Welborn who moved west. I have not been able to tie him in with my family. My great great uncle Marion is documented in my grandfather's book (Life and Experiemces of William Ransom Welborn). I looked at his tombstone and it is only Marion Welborn and it's also that on deeds to him from his father and brother. It's also that way in his Civil War Records. Also Robert, his father, spelled his name Welborn in all documents that he created and his father, Richard, spelled his own name Welborn in his will. Some documents such as census and other documents written by clerks spell it the old way (Wilbourn) as did Richard's father Edward in his will. I have also corrected the birth year for Robert that was posted on the internet. His actual birth year, which I got from my grandfather's book was 1792.
If you notice the names that the Cockerhams married were the same families multiple times. There was a small close knit group of families that lived along Mitchells River. Among the surnames were Roberts, Snow, Moody, Cockerham, which my Welborns married into several times. It was not unusual for cousins to marry and double first cousins were very common. I will create a descendent list for David Cockerham and send it to you.
