I just found 54 responses to Benjamin Cockerham on the World Connect Project website. There was a Benjamin Cockerham alive and kicking in the 1750s and before in old Lunenburg County, Virginia. Usually associated with Henry and Phillip Cockerham. These guys are not in my direct line as yet, so I have very little information. From the dates you listed the central Virginia Lunenburg folks are your best bet. My Daniel Cockerham line was represented in South Carolina by Chesley Cockerham who didn't leave North Carolina until about 1790.
