I am trying to research Daniel Stewart Cockerham's parents. I have the following information based on a hand-written letter: Daniel was born in Buncomb Co., NC. on 7 October 1806. He came to Iowa on April 13, 1846. This letter also indicates he had one sister, Katherine; 5 brothers Thomas, James, Joel, Jesse, and Jasper. Daniel married Celia Gibbs. In the Iowa (Polk County) 1850 Census it shows Daniel (43) and Celia (41) have the following children (with ages at time of this census): John (16), Daniel (14), Charity (12), Elizabeth (10), David (8), Jesse (6) and Thomas (1). Daniel, Celia and all their children with the exception of Thomas gave their birthplace in this census as North Carolina. Thomas was born in Polk County, Iowa. Daniel Stewart is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa. Date of Death: 5 October 1861. Any assistance would be appreciated regarding Daniel Stewart Cockerham's parents. THANKS!
