I'm very interested in swapping information with you. Chesley was my "uncle" a few generations back and has always been of interest to me since I 'discovered' him long ago. Here's an excerpt from one of my files:

Daniel Cockerham Sr. and Frances --, parents of:

       1. Chesley Cockerham (Cocrum) b. ca 1730 d. < 1810 He was listed on a
1795 tax list in Greenville, South Carolina. Frank E.
Cockerham of Melbourne, Florida found Chesley on
Caroline County court records being sued for debt along
with William and Daniel Cockerham by Thomas Wild in
                     1751.
              m. (1) Abrusha Norman... She is identified on a 13 Jan 1757 court
record in Caroline County giving security for the orphans of
                     Joseph Norment.
              m. (2) Elizabeth Coleman? Trible, widow of Shadrach Trible. She is
identified on 1759 will of her first husband. She and Chesley
sold land in Caroline County on 10 Aug 1772.
              m. (3) Margaret "Peggy" Martin 17 Aug 1782 in Wilkes County, NC.
She was the daughter of Alexander Martin. Giles Martin was
security. Peggy moved with Chesley to Pendleton District,
South Carolina. Chesley sold 92 acres to Ephraim Davis in
Wilkes County on 17 Sep 1790.
              1. Daniel Cockerham , shown on 1800 census in SC less than 10                             years of age. (as per Peggy Chapman)

This man Chesley has intrigued me for some time. Chesley is found in court records as early as 1751 in Caroline County, Virginia. He apparently left that area to escape some debts. On 11 May 1751 Thomas Wild filed actions of debt against William Cockerham, Daniel Cockerham and Chisley (sic) Cockerham. He was with Humphrey at the time of the deaths of Dan Sr. and Dan Jr. in Halifax County, Virginia in 1767 and 1772. They then both came to Wilkes County, North Carolina where Chesley had several land grants and land dealings recorded between 1782 and 1790. He and Peggy moved on to South Carolina after 1790. Peggy Chapman reports that Chesley witnessed a deed for Tucker Woodson in Greenville, SC in 1795.

Please note. Cousin Peggy died a few years ago.
