Very interesting post, with some unresolved problems for this person. First, some of this info you may not have: Stephen Coffin b. 1744 Exeter, NH, d. 29 Aug 1800 Freeport, ME. NO KNOWLEDGE OF BURIAL LOCATION. Why Exeter? Eliphalet's will to Peter(Exeter) in 1735 gives "my house lot which I sold to Abner Coffin, if he returns it again, if not, the money he owes for it". Abner Jr.'s military record indicates being born in Exeter in 1838. None of Abner Sr's children have any place of birth indicated in any record that I can find. Steven's traces (other than his many children--9 by Martha, 6 by Betsey): 1768-Listed on old North Yarmouth tax list. 1783-Of lewiston, when marrying Betsey in Topsham. 1789,1792,1793 Innholder in Freeport. 1790 census--Living in Freeport. My mystery involves George Washington Coffin who lived in Brunswick from 1822 to about 1834, and Freeport thereafter. Some of his children were ilving with other people (George William (b.1835) with Thomas Griffin and Ephraim (b. 1841) with John Sherman). There appears to be unusual "goings on" at the very least. The line of the Phippsburg Coffin's have Albert Coffin (b.24 Apr 1822) as the undisputed progenitor of their line. A paper found in their library indicates George Washington Coffin as being Albert's father. However, another son of GW Coffin (George Henry) was born in Brunswick on 23 Feb 1822--which obviously doesn't fit the dates for ordinary rules of society. My interest is tracking all of the descendents (Generally, those named "Coffin") of Abner Coffin and Mary Rawlins. Notify Administrator about this message?
