Edsel Bates md Rachel Hurst(Cape Elizabeth) 3 Mar 1795.
Edsel Bates md Mary Wormwell (Harpswell) 27 Oct 1802.
Mary Bates living with Alexander Johnson in 1850 Census of Cumberland Islands with Jane Bates and 3 Johnson offspring. This would set Mary Bates as being born in 1775.
Mary Bates in 1840 Census.
Mary Bates in 1830 Census. Caroline would "fit"
Adsell Bates in 1810 Census (Bates I., Hope I., Chebeague I.)
Edsell Bates in 1790 Census.
Wormwell's seemed to live in Falmouth (1800 Census). Mary would "fit" in Joseph's Household as only person in 16 to 26 yr range of females in any Wormell household (There are 6).
I don't think there is any question that Mary Wormwell is Caroline Bates' mother. It is very likely that Mary Wormell is the daughter of Joseph Wormwell.
